At the pediatrician's a few weeks ago, Igor and I learned that the average 18-month old toddler can say 10-20 words. Here is Nikita's current list:
Papa
Mama
Up
Tikkun-tikkun (conveys general sense of well-being)
Dya dya (for people in general)
In sign language (half of them learned within the past week):
milk
change diaper
I love you (his own: he hugs himself and swings back and forth)
I want to dance (his own: pumps fist up and down)
spider (his own, based on "Itsy, Bitsy Spider")
apple
ball
dog
more than one (his own: raises hands, then jerks them down with a "grunt")
We expect him to be a late because people talk to him in more than one language. Still, it will be nice when he gets beyond the pointing and yelling stage. Not to mention the growling and swiping stage when he gets frustrated with us.
