Daw!

I've created a monster. In the never-ending quest to get Nikita to eat, I started drawing for him. The other day, I filled two pages of random drawings, all done upside-down so that I didn't have to waste time turning around the page. Nikita kept urging me by saying "Daw!" (draw) and "Boy!" What makes drawing the worst trick is that I draw using the same hand I use to feed Nikita. Luckily, Igor was able to draw over the weekend as I fed Nikita. The only saving grace is this phase should pass within a day or two.

I am proud to say, however, that I am nearly finished with a number of items on my "What's currently on/in my..." list - even the socks! I think a sweater for Nikita is in order, but after working with fingerling yarn for the past three months, I'm so tempted to buy bulky yarn and make something - a Moebius strip? - with it. But, discipline may win out, as I already have yarn to make Nikita's sweater.

As for the books, I've got Gilead lined up for bookclub, but instead, I'm going to read The Golden Compass as a Harry Potter-like antidote for all the heavy reading I've been doing recently. Thank goddess for the online reservation system at the library. It keeps my credit card safe from my compulsive reading habits.

At one point last week, however, I had such book-fatigue - it seemed that I had 200 pages to go on all the books I'm reading/listening to - that I did some research on potty training. Even bought some rather cheap cloth training pants. While I am waiting for those to come in, I picked up a package of disposable traning pants (the kind that allows him to feel the wetness), but Nikita refused to wear the pants. More troubling is that he also doesn't want to sit on the potty, although he can identify it - calling it "puku". At least he likes reading his potty training books, Once Upon a Potty and Your New Potty - and, yes, Igor and his mom think I'm nuts for getting potty traning books. In sum, potty training is going to be tough, just like getting Nikita to eat.
