Kids and science

On the bus ride into work this morning, I saw a mom reading How to Think Like a Scientist to her three children. This book is listed for grades 3-5, and contains mostly text (stories) - not many pictures. The preschool stared into space, and the oldest child (7?) didn't look particularly interested either. I thought, "Good intention, but you've lost your audience."

Perhaps she should try Germ Stories instead. Nobel Prize-winner Arthur Kornberg made up these bedtime stories and poems for his kids. And one of his kids recently one the Nobel Prize.
