Meeting report

This past Saturday, I attended (and presented at) my very first conference on teaching writing. My presentation went well, and I was flattered by requests to give advice at two different institutions. And I asked questions at other presentations.

What really struck me about the conference was the uneven quality of the presentations. In particular, I'm not used to people actually reading from their papers. I know that this is a common practice in the humanities, but an audience member has different needs than a reader. So it goes...

The best part of the weekend was that I didn't have to work for more than 24 hours. And I actually finished a book (after nearly two months) on Friday: Hemingway's Suitcase by MacDonald Harris. Not as good as The Balloonist, but it makes me want to pick up a collection of Hemingway short stories.
