If Nikita could talk, that's how he would describe it, I'm sure. Due to our wonderful technological world, I was able to reserve a copy of J.K. Rowling's latest
book at the library back in January (when the title was released). Picked it up at noon on Saturday, and finished it last night. Nikita probably never saw me read so much - and not to him! There were a few moments when he actually sat down next to me "reading" his books, which meant opening the book and slapping pages, indicating what he wanted me to read. Nikita didn't get much help from Galina or Igor: Galina was engrossed with the Russian translation of
The Da Vinci Code (also from the library) and Igor worked on a butcher block table for the kitchen.
Despite my preoccupation with Harry Potter, I still noticed Nikita's latest accomplishments:
- listened to Lola & Michael singing without pushing phone away from him
- signed "milk" when he saw it in one of his ABC books (almost as cool as Nikita clasping his hands and pumping them when Igor exclaims in Russian, "Long live the Communist party of the United States of America!")
- figured out how to put on his sandal (he got the heel in!)
Nikita's mealtimes are still an event, but he is really fond of eating fruits by himself. Melons and peaches work best right now, probably because they're firm (unlike bananas). He's still not fond of going downstairs backwards by himself (I'm still trying!) and brushing teeth is now a battle because he insists on doing it himself.
I'm really itching to knit again, so can't wait until the audio version of
Don Quixote arrives at the library so I can restart Nikita's sweater. After this weekend and intensely reading
How to Read a Book last week, I am all read-out. Or perhaps it is because I learned that Dumbledore loves looking at knitting patterns!
