Nikita really enjoys Janet Schulman's anthology, The 20th Century Children's Book Treasury. Apparently, the new edition has 15 additional titles. The following are some books which I think should be included (we keep borrowing them from the library):
Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear? by Nancy White Carlstrom
Shoe Baby by Joyce Dunbar
Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss
Tanka Tanka Skunk! by Steve Webb
No list for Nikita would be complete without a book on either trucks or trains, but Nikita hasn't asked for more than Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel and Freight Train, both in the Schulman anthology. Otherwise, the library books of the week are sufficient whenever he asks for "truck" or "train". One book that stands out for me so far is Trucks: Whizz! Zoom! Rumble! by Patricia Hubbell, but I'm sure that I'll have more when Nikita and I exhaust the titles at the library.
A publishing company that I would like to explore more is Candlewick Press, publishers of Hug by Jez Alborough and Shoe Baby.
