2006 picks

Food: My unborn baby likes food. I've put together pastrami with pickles (Igor now insists on pickles in his sandwich), and have eaten a lot more meat. Chocolate is big as well. Best finds of the year are Katie's on the Cove in Maine, and the Whole Foods store brand truffles: 27 delicious pieces of chocolate for only $5.

Book: Tough call. Although I read a number of classics this year, perhaps that books that made me think the most were The Life and Death of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs and His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman.
For Nikita, I would say the best find would be the Nutshell Library by Maurice Sendak, in particular One Was Johnny and Pierre: A Cautionary Tale. However, The 20th-Century Children's Book Treasury still rules. No matter how many books we get from the library, Nikita will pick up this book every once in a while and look through it like an old friend.

Music: I don't think I bought one CD this year - and it's not because I have an iPod (I don't have one). So, probably the biggest musical developments in my life is my sadness with WERS's change in format, but my happiness with finding Nikita's music appreciation class.
