And I've got both boys in my charge. Vanya is sleeping in his sling (holding pacifier in mouth), and Nikita is looking at How Do Dinosaurs Eat their Food?
Missed doing a "What's Currently In.." post for the second month in a row, but really, there wasn't much to note. I was reading Infant Potty Training and The Iliad (Fagles translation). I finished The Iliad yesterday. Such a relief to read good writing again - perhaps I'm still recovering from my FEE experience. Nikita has taken over the music in the house, which means all day, I hear Thomas the Tank Engine songs. We got a new Thomas CD from the library last Saturday, but some child stole/destroyed the words to this CD as well.
And knitting? No chance. Partially because of the lack of time, partially because until very recently, I was suffering from De Quervain's tensynovitis - basically tendonitis of the thumb, or "Mommy thumb". The condition is found among pregnant or postpartum women. I actually saw a hand surgeon about it. The experience was very odd. He passed himself off as Dr. Positive, trying to convince me that I was not to blame for my condition at all - that I was an innocent bystander. He also said that only thing that would hasten the 1-year recovery time would be not ibuprofen, ice, sling, or cortisone shot, but you guessed it - surgery. No way.
Vanya turned 3 months old last Friday. He's doing really well. Still nursing around the clock. He seems to cluster feed twice a day, in the evening, and a random time during the day. He has started to laugh - which is really cute - particularly when I pull clothing over his head. Don't know what that's about. He uses potty time as an opportunity to "chat" with me. And he tries to crawl, or at least move forward (his body isn't elevated) when he's on his tummy. We've counted at least three sets of dimples on his face, and wonder what color his eyes eventually will be. They are currently blue/gray, and more luminescent than Nikita's eyes ever were.
Nikita's toilet training is progressing well. He keeps his (disposable) training pants dry all day, which is a good thing because he insists on wearing them backwards so that he can see more of the cars in the front. He particularly likes "watering" the plants outside. He still poops in his diaper, though, and I can tell when he wants to poop because he asks for a regular diaper. We've made a compromise for now: he at least sits on the toilet or potty.
