Birthdays

Today, Vanya turns 7 months; yesterday, I turned 37 years. It's hard to think of myself as that old, but so go it goes.

My parents came up to visit, which was nice because Igor is out of town on business. My folks brought up food, including a cake, which added to the large number of sweets we already have in the house. I can't remember when we had so many (Halloween) candies, cookies, and cakes in the house. Galina presented me with a huge box of chocolates; Igor also bought a huge chunk of Napoleon, my favorite cake from the Russian store. And what did I have for dessert last night instead? Poached quince with Double Rainbow French Vanilla ice cream. It was my first time making and eating quince, and it tastes like a vegetable!

I'm not going to bother with a "What's currently in..." post because everything is work, work, work. However, I did pick up a volume of Chekhov early short stories (edited by Shelby Foote) from the library. I figured I can at least finish those, if not a Shakespeare play. And a fellow mom just lent me The Science of Parenting, which I'd rather read than books on real estate (Igor's latest phase).
