"Me" time

Yesterday, I heard from a pen-pal I hadn't heard from in years. She asked me what I do when I have "me" time (she has three kids), and I asked myself, "What "me" time? I can't even finish a Shakespeare play these days (Hamlet, if you really want to know)." Even though recently, I've been able to get Vanya to sleep early, I spend the extra time commenting on students' papers rather than, say, knitting. But I could use a pair of mittens right now...

Vanya is nearly 7 months old, and still being breastfed. He seems to take to solids much more easily than Nikita at his age (a friend told me I deserve at least one good eater). The only things he isn't crazy about are avocado and yogurt, but if I give him something sweet alongside of it (even yams), he'll eat them. In fact, he usually has something in his mouth, even a rail of his crib. Vanya has been sitting up without support for about two weeks, and is ready to crawl any day now (I'm sure I'll be saying this for weeks). He remembered how to scoot a couple of weeks ago, and last night, I found him up on all fours, rocking back and forth.

Nikita must have gone through a growth spurt. Not that he's eating more, but his clothes are fitting him less well these days. The other day, he drew a picture of me working on my computer, with a cup of tea (complete with steam):

Igor's latest thing is to take Nikita to the Museum of Fine Arts on the weekends; as MIT employees, we can get free passes (a real perk since an adult ticket costs $17). Nikita seems to like it, but not quite as much as the library or the playground. But, we've only started.

As for me, I'm living day by day. Work was pretty crazy the past couple of weeks, with mid-term evaluations. Amazingly, I didn't get many complaints about my (harsh) grading. Don't know what's up with that. And the weather can't figure out what season it is yet. It was warm enough to eat ice cream. At last I found a really good brand: Double Rainbow. Their chocolate is divine, their vanilla reminiscent of Edy's Dreamery (which doesn't exist anymore!), and their coffee can keep you awake. Blueberry, however, is just okay. Oh, and I vaguely know that the Red Sox won the World Series. The last time they won was the year Nikita was born. Igor and I don't plan on having more children, so I guess Bostonians better party while they can.
