Maple syrup, pizza, and books

This past weekend, I dragged the family out to NH for the Maple Weekend Open House. Unfortunately, although Boston was sunny and in the 50's, NH was cloudy, damp, and cold. We were surprised to still see snow on the ground. At least we didn't go far. At Folsom's Sugar House, we saw some taps and a boiler, and enjoyed the maple products. My favorite was the maple cream.

The trip wasn't a complete loss because we had some fantastic Sicilian pizza at Rig A Tony's in nearby Derry. The tomato sauce was probably doctored with fresh tomatoes (we saw tomatoes being pressed), and the dough was delicious.

We rounded out our trip on the road with a stop at Walmart's (yes, I know, evil) to pick up another 400-piece K'nex set for Nikita (the Creepy Creatures set) and the library to drop off books. I also picked up a Great Books course from the Teaching Company, which I'm really glad about because the narrator for the Mister Pip audiobook annoyed me.

In other book news, I finally finished reading to Ivan the first edition of The Oxford Book of English Verse, and started the Bible (King James Version). Although I really enjoyed the rhyme and rhythm of Quiller-Couch's poetry anthology, I have to admit that most of the poems didn't really strike me. I'm going to have to go back to the collection to identify my favorite poets (there is a love poem that I particularly liked), but in the meantime, I might pick up Palgrave's Golden Treasury for comparison.
