Recent weekend outings

Thursday seems to be an odd time to be writing about recent weekend outings, but hey, I had to get through 10 first drafts and a conference proposal this week. Plus, today is Odd Day, one of the few times in a century when the date is made up of consecutive numbers.

We Bostonians have been experiencing the typical spring: 50 degree weather (sometimes even snow), then bam! It's summer. And back down to 50 degree weather. But two weekends ago, we had some really nice weather: sun, 70 degrees. Ideal spring weather. Of course, if I wanted ideal spring weather all the time, I should've stayed in the Bay Area. But I digress.

Instead of spring cleaning (what exactly is the ideal weather for this?), we've been going on outings. Two weekends ago, we went to Great Brooks Farm State Park in Carlisle. It took us forever to get out of the house, and once we were there, most of us ate lunch while Igor accompanied Nikita on his bike. Then we had a nice walk, topped off with ice cream at the park (though the Cookies 'n Cream is not very good) and free pizza (thanks to a coupon) at home.

Last weekend, we joined Liz at the Brookline Open Studios, mainly around Brookline Village. The art that we saw (paintings, photographs, ceramics) were of better quality than the art Igor and I saw at Jamaica Plain Open Studios a few years ago. Both boys joined us, and I'm happy to say that they didn't break anything. But it was funny how Ivan sat down at every opportunity.

We've also been attending church every Sunday since Easter. Okay, that makes only two Sundays, but it's a start. Ivan particularly likes going around kissing the icons, and he can actually kiss now (since Easter, oddly), not just position his cheek for a kiss.

Next Sunday is Mother's Day. I doubt we'll do anything special, especially since my mom's in the Philippines (and Nikita really needs a haircut before his birthday). But I did send mom this video, and you should, too, to your favorite mom(s).
