An Everlasting Meal by Tamar Adler

Although it is only March, Adler's book may be the best book I will read all year. Indeed, it may influence my cooking as much as Pam Anderson's How to Cook without a Book. Adler's essays deal with the three biggest challenges of the amateur home cook (at least this one): how to keep produce from spoiling; what to do with leftovers; and how to salvage your cooking disasters. Her (mostly Mediterranean) recipes may not be for the novice cook, but her delicate, elegant writing convinces her readers that they, too, can cook with economy and grace.
