Inaugural post

One day shy of my half-birthday, one month shy of Igor's birthday, and eleven days shy of Nikita's (first!) birthday. Why start a blog?

• Keep my family and friends up to date.
• Because everybody and their dog has one (that, and knitting needles).
• Help me figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

Frankly, I don't know how long I will be able to maintain a blog. I think that the really cool blogs out there are written by people who don't have children. Honestly, what did I do with all the free time I had before I had Nikita? Sleep, probably.

Why SeriousPig? Because bacon goes with everything. I do, however, find it difficult to make the connection between bacon and a few of my interests: salsa dancing, singing gospel music, and yoga. Pork is an important component of the Latin American and African-American diets, but is forbidden in a yogic (vegetarian) diet?

I'll end this post with a "poem" on another passion that doesn't go well with bacon:

I can knit anywhere
