Happy Memorial Day. As I have done a lot recently, I spent part of my long weekend following Nikita around as he toddled around the house. This time, however, I was able to knit as I walked thanks to my Wrapsack. First, a ribbon for the Stupid Baby Bonnet, and then a Sophie Bag in Cascade 220 Lime Heather. This yarn feels super nice on the hands, and I think the bag will be smashing in this color.
Anyway, chasing Nikita around got me thinking that policemen should knit as they idle away time - whoops, I mean supervise construction work. Wouldn't that be cool? And it would help dispel the modern notion that only women knit. Igor doesn't think men knit, but Mary Thomas' Knitting Book talks about how shepherds in France knit as they watch their sheep (they collect wool, too, from the bushes!) and how knitting spread through (male) traders.
I would like to teach Nikita how to knit when he is a bit older. He already appreciates the wool, I think. When I showed him my STILL unfelted Booga bag, he wrinkled his nose, gave a big "hmmm!", and pressed his face into the bag - just like he does with stuffed animals or photos of babies he likes.
